The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit are investigating 10 animal bites over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
The information comes as a result of Today’s Northumberland enquiry resulting from a dog bit incident in Cobourg on October 8, 2024.
Cobourg police stated that police they responded to assist ambulance after a dog big a child.
Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society and Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge, District Health Unit were notified of the incident. The child was transported to a hospital in the GTA for treatment of their injuries. No charges have been laid as a result of the police investigation. HKPR District Health Unit has opened an investigation.
Today’s Northumberland reached out to HKPR District Health Unit for comment.
Manager of Communication Services for the Office of the Medical Officer of Health Ashley Ann Beaulac, stated, “we can confirm that 10 animal bite incidents were reported over the Thanksgiving long weekend and we are currently investigating,” but didn’t provide any other information on any of the dog bites.
