Port Hope Police – Incidents Include Assault, Assault Peace Officer, Theft (No Names Released)

Assault

A 54-year-old male from Cobourg and a 35-year-old female from Port Hope were both arrested and charged with assault as a result of a domestic dispute.

In the early hours of September 6, 2024, police were dispatched to an address in Port Hope. Police spoke with the parties involved, who both accused the other of physical assault during an altercation. As a result of an investigation, both the male and female were arrested and charged with assault. They were both released on an undertaking with conditions.

 

Assault a Peace Officer

A 31-year-old Cobourg male was arrested and charged with assaulting a Peace Officer at Northumberland Hills Hospital.

On September 3, 2024, the male was apprehended and transported to Northumberland Hills Hospital. While at the hospital, the male began to become violent with hospital staff and officers. He proceeded to front kick a female officer in the abdomen area. The male was then restrained and placed under arrest. He was later released on an undertaking with conditions.

 

Assault a Peace Officer

A 54-year-old male was arrested and charged with assaulting a Peace Officer after a complainant called police to report a male yelling obscenities to people in the street.

On August 25, 2025, police were dispatched to the area of Hope Sreet South and Peter Street, once on scene, they witnessed a male yelling and making threats to others around him. The male became quite irate and as police tried to diffuse the situation, he began throwing items at the officers, striking on in the ankle and shoulder.

As a result, the male was arrested and charged with Assaulting a Pease Officer. He was later released with conditions.

 

Theft

A 69-year-old Port Hope Female was charged with Theft Under $5000 after she was seen on camera stealing several items from a downtown business.

On August 28, 2024, Police were contacted by a business in Port Hope, where management had video of a female entering the store, placing merchandise in her purse and failing to pay for it when checking out.  After Police and management viewed the footage, the female was identified as a regular shopper of the business.

On August 28, 2024, an officer attended her residence to positively identify her. The female was served a notice to appear in court on October 9, 2024.

 

Assault

A 39-year-old Port Hope female was arrested and charged with assault after an altercation with her mother led to the victim being hit in the face.

On September 1, 2024, police responded to a call in relation to a family dispute. Upon arrival, it was learned that during the dispute, the victim asked the accused to leave her residence. An argument ensued and the accused proceeded to smack the victim in the face.

As a result, the female was arrested and charged with assault. She was later released with conditions.
