Video – Vehicle Bursts Into Flames After Colliding with Train South of Grafton

Vehicle Train Collision Grafton September 9, 2024

One person was killed after a vehicle and train collided south of Grafton on Monday, September 9, 2024.

Emergency services, including Alnwick/Haldimand Township Fire Department, Northumberland OPP and Northumberland County Paramedics were notified of the collision at approximately 1 a.m.

A eastbound CN freight train collided with a vehicle near the Station Road railway crossing.

The collision caused the vehicle to burst into flames.

Emergency services accessed the vehicle on McMaster Road which is just east of Station Road.

When Today’s Northumberland was on scene, the audible railway signs that have arms blocking the roadway were working and didn’t appear to be damaged.

Investigators are working to try and determine how and why the collision happened and if the vehicle was on the tracks (away from the crossing).

The person was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigation is being conducted by Northumberland OPP assisted by the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit.

The deceased person is not from the immediate area.
