Cobourg Legion and Town Launch New ‘Honour Our Veterans’ Banner Program

Light post banners will be displayed in Downtown Cobourg

Experience Cobourg, in partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133, is excited to announce a new initiative to honour and remember our veterans. The ‘Honour Our Veterans’ Banner Program will offer families the opportunity to celebrate their loved ones through personalized banners displayed on street light posts in Downtown Cobourg.

From the start of the Poppy Campaign (last Friday in October) through to mid-November, the banners will recognize and honour local Veterans, deceased Veterans, and active service members who have served or are currently serving in the Canadian, Allied, or Commonwealth Forces with a connection to Cobourg. Through art, the Town hopes to encourage residents to learn about the sacrifices made by our Forces members, fostering a greater appreciation and preserving the legacy of our veterans.

“This banner program is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served. It’s a meaningful way to ensure their sacrifices are remembered and honoured,” said Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133 1st Vice President Jennifer Robison.

The banners, measuring 16” x 48” and printed in full colour on both sides, will feature a photo and name of the veteran, their military affiliation, and the name of the sponsor. These banners will be stored by the Town of Cobourg to ensure they are preserved and ready for display each year. Participation in the program does not require Legion membership by either the honouree or the sponsor.
