Restoration Work Starts on Baltimore Creek Retaining Wall
Northumberland County has started the rehabilitation of the Baltimore Creek Retaining Wall, located along County Road 45 approximately 400 meters north of County Road 15 (Harwood Road) in Baltimore. This critical infrastructure project aims to reinforce and repair the gabion basket retaining wall, which provides essential embankment protection along the east bank of the Baltimore Creek and helps prevent downstream erosion.
The aging retaining wall has deteriorated over time and requires repair and reinforcement. In addition to reinforcing the wall, the project will also include the replacement of mature trees and shrubs to naturalize the area, ensuring both structural stability and environmental sustainability.
Starting this week, crews will begin site preparation by clearing trees and brush and constructing an access road between the creek and the retaining wall.
The site construction effort will begin mid-August and run to late September. To support the reconstruction of the retaining wall, lane closures will occur on County Road 45. The road will be reduced to a single lane between Limekiln Trail and County Road 15 (Harwood Road) with temporary traffic signals guiding traffic for approximately two weeks. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly.
