The Cobourg Farmers Market celebrated their 185th anniversary on Saturday, July 27, 2024.

Helping kick off the festivities were two large delicious birthday cakes.

President of the Farmer’s Market, Lauren Pinto said the Cobourg’s Farmers Market dates back to 1839 making it one of the oldest continuing operating markets in Ontario.

The market had been located behind Victoria Hall from 1861 to 2018 when it moved to Rotary Harbourfront Park.

Each week the Farmer’s Market brings together farmers, artisans, musicians and members of the community.

“It’s not just a market. It’s a gathering place that strengthens bonds and creates a shared sense of belonging for all who visit,” said Pinto.

MP Philip Lawrence said the farmers market, “is a piece of our community that’s being shared.”

“When we do that we reinvest not just in food products, not just bacon, not just in sausage, not just in soulsa, we reinvest in our community.”

Cobourg Councillor Adam Bureau said, “neighbours from all over Northumberland County get to meet here every Saturday morning.”

There were also balloons, face painting and live entertainment.
