Update Regarding Ongoing Fire Investigation at Former File Factory in Port Hope
Following the large fire at the former File Factory (121 Cavan Street) on July 14, 2024, this notice serves to update the community on the current status of the fire investigation.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has completed their on-site investigation and returned control of the property back to the owners earlier this week. The formal report with their findings is expected to be released in approximately two months. The Port Hope Police Service continues to investigate the incident and has conducted relevant interviews.
Measures are being taken to deter any unauthorized entry to the site, including the installation of a fence.
The Municipality’s Chief Building Official is in communication with the property owners to ensure that the debris is not left on-site for an extended period. Meetings with the owners are planned to discuss the impact of the fire on future plans for the property.
