Encampment Residents Take Part in “Wellness Clinic” at 310 Division Street

A number of encampment residents took part in a two-day wellness clinic at 310 Division Street earlier this week.

Manager of Housing and Homelessness Services, Rebecca Carman said Northumberland County Community and Social Services along with Northumberland Paramedics along with community volunteered partnered to coordinate the two-day wellness clinic on July 2-3 at 310 Division Street in Cobourg.

“The purpose was to provide health and wellness services for unsheltered community members in a location that would protect the dignity and privacy of those accessing services,” said Carman.

Approximately 15 to 20 community members took part in the clinic.

“The County was pleased to be able to quickly coordinate this clinic, and provide much-needed services to vulnerable residents, within a small window of opportunity that arose in the renovation activities currently taking place at 310 Division.”

“Given the importance of privacy for any individual accessing health services, and given the temporary, brief, and targeted nature of the services provided, no public notifications were issued.”

Northumberland County said Cobourg Council was advised of the two day clinic.

Communications Manager for the Town of Cobourg, Kara Euale said Northumberland County informed the town last week that social services would be bringing individuals over to 310 Division Street to use the hygiene facilities.

“They informed us that this may take place over a couple of days as they were only taking small groups of 3 or 4 people at a time, for short periods of time during business hours.”

The formal opening of 310 Division Street remains on track for September 2024.
