Canopy Support Services, a longstanding leader in providing specialized supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), is pleased to announce the opening of a new Autism Services Clinic in collaboration with Northumberland Christian School.
“We are extremely excited to expand the new Autism Services clinic in the Northumberland area to address a service-gap and to bring autism services closer to home,” said Himanshu Shah, CEO at Canopy
Support Services.
Formerly known as Tri-County Community Support Services, Canopy Support Services is a cornerstone in developmental services for local communities. With a dedicated team of over 115 skilled professionals serving five regions including Northumberland, Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Durham, and Haliburton, Canopy is renowned for its collaborative approach with individuals, families, and community partners.
The new Autism Services Clinic, set to open its doors in Cobourg this fall, builds upon Canopy’s extensive experience as a regional provider of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) based Autism Services for over 20 years. Initially partnering with Northumberland Christian School in 2007, Canopy will once again utilize the school’s facilities to deliver in-person clinical services, including 1:1 behavioural services, family foundational groups, and group programming focusing on social skills and emotional regulation.
“Our NCS team is so excited to welcome Canopy to the building,” said Ginette Mack, Principal at Northumberland Christian School. “We love creating partnerships with others who are serving children and families in the community. We look forward to the opportunities that working together will bring.”
This initiative marks a significant expansion of Canopy’s commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals across the Northumberland area.
“Our goal with the Northumberland clinic is to strengthen our ties within the local community,
reduce travel costs for families, and continue delivering the exceptional level of service that defines Canopy,” said Angela Rose, Autism Services Manager at Canopy Support Services.
“We are excited to reintroduce our Autism Services Clinic to Cobourg and to provide comprehensive
and individualized supports to children and youth with autism and their families. Our clinical team is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of families and we look forward to expanding and re-establishing a presence in Northumberland County.”
Similar to Canopy’s established Peterborough clinic, the Northumberland clinic will be staffed
by our existing team of highly experienced and dedicated clinicians, all trained in ABA and
supervised by Registered Behaviour Analysts with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour
Analysts of Ontario. This evidence-based approach ensures that services are both effective and
tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual and their family.
