Finlay Construction Gives Big Boost to NHH Campaign

The Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation has announced a $50,000 boost to its Exceptional Community, Exceptional Care campaign, thanks to Finlay Construction of Baltimore.

The family-owned and -operated business is a long-time supporter, the announcement said, though this is their biggest commitment to date, “demonstrating both an understanding of the significant needs currently facing the hospital and the Finlays’ desire to help.”

Foundation Chief Executive Officer Rhonda Cunningham recalled that Finlay Construction gave a leadership-level gift towards NHH when it was being built more than 20 years ago.

They “have made numerous donations and been business partners over the years since,” Cunningham added.

“When we came to them with our current campaign, they stepped up to offer their support once again. We are very grateful.”

Gerald Finlay started the company in 1951 with one single-axle dump truck. The business grew to include his wife Margery and their children – Dwight, Glen, George and Mary Jane. The Finlay children still run the operation and employ roughly 25 people, offering a strong work ethic, quality customer service and generous community support.

“Sitting down with members of the Finlay family, their friendly humbleness shines through,” the press release aid.

“They’re quick to point out how much the community’s support of their business has helped them succeed over the years and how this history feeds into their desire to give back – to support the community that has supported them.”

George Finlay expressed the hope that this support will help the campaign succeed in getting the equipment it needs, “to continue care for our community and to attract health-care workers to the hospital.

“Having a well-equipped local hospital is important to us and beneficial for everyone – including our families, friends and employees.”

The family appreciates the like-minded Foundation and volunteer community leaders who have, to date, taken on the role of raising $25-million to fund the key priorities of this ambitious campaign – the largest campaign in Northumberland County’s history. The dedicated Campaign Cabinet, under the leadership of Campaign Chair Hank Vandermeer, includes volunteers like Tom and Teresa Behan who have long known the Finlay family.

“I’m not surprised the Finlays leaned in to support our hospital,” Tom Behan said.

“I’ve known them to be a caring and community-minded family, and their support of our campaign is yet another example of this.”
