Video – Breaking News – Tent Goes Up in Flames at Encampment in Cobourg

Encampment Tent Fire Cobourg April 12, 2024

There were no injuries, but a tent and the belongings inside it were destroyed by fire on Friday, April 12, 2024.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. firefighters responds to a structure fire at 390 King Street East which is where a encampment has been located for several months.

Captain Gene Stroeder said when crews arrived, most of the fire had been extinguished by residents.

A crew wearing breathing apparatus completely extinguished the fire separating items search for and putting out hot spots.

“No one was in the tent and no injuries from people assisting putting the fire out with extinguishers.”

Firefighters did locate a propane cannister inside the charred remains of the tent.

Cobourg Fire Department will be following up with residents to make sure they are complying and following safe practices.

Northumberland County Paramedics and a representative from Moms Stop The Harm were also present.
