Countdown Begins for Christmas Magic in Cobourg
The clock is ticking – just one day before Cobourg officially gets into the holiday season with the Christmas Magic Light Ceremony.
The ceremony is set to take place on Friday, November 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Victoria Hall.
Manager of Culture, Jackie Chapman-Davis spoke to Today’s Northumberland on Wednesday and said the weather has been on their side – for the most part.
Once Victoria Hall is lit up, people will make their way down Second Street to Rotary Harbour Front Park where once again, the Christmas Lights will be lit up.
Chapman-Davis said the Fare Share Food Bank will once again be on hand for those who wish to donate a non-perishable food item.
“Things are going well. We’re getting a lot of ground covered, the lights will be beautiful.”
Rotary Harbour Front Park has been completed now crews are working at a feverish pace trying to complete Victoria Park.
There was a little “glitch” with one of the trucks which delayed installing some of the lights in Victoria Park.
“It took some extra time and a few extra weeks. We now have a rented truck. We are working fast to get Victoria Park done, but it is a big park with a lot of ground to cover.”
Chapman-Davis said Victoria Park won’t be part of the official lighting this Friday.
“If we can get it done by Friday, it will be on, if not, it will be on next week 100%.”
Squirrels almost were looking around at the workers installing the lights.
For the squirrels, it’s almost a festive feast for them.
The Christmas lights are coated with a soya base so it makes the plastic last longer, but wildlife such as squirrels chew through the cords and store the small lights.
“This is a battle for us the entire season. We fix lights right up until the day we turn them off.”
