Wizard of Oz Kicks Off Marie Dressler Foundation Vintage Film Festival in Port Hope
The 30th anniversary of the Marie Dressler Foundation Vintage Film Festival kicks off with a walk down the Yellow Brick Road in Port Hope on Friday, October 20, 2023.
The Wizard of Oz Costume Parade started on Lents Lane then made its way along Queen Street and then Walton before heading back to the Capitol Theatre for a sold-out showing of The Wizard of Oz.
The last time the movie played at the Capitol Theatre was on October 29, 1939.
The three-day Vintage Film Festival showed movies including Rosemary’s Baby, Great Expectations, Belle de Jour, From Russia with Love, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes to name a few.
The Marie Dressler Foundation is a registered charity and was started in 1990 to save and maintain the heritage home of Marie Dressler in Cobourg.
One of the fundraising ideas was to host a dinner followed by the screening of a Marie Dressler movie. The event was so popular that it became an annual event growing over the years to a three-day program.
