Many People Didn’t Receive Amber Alert for Abducted Infant

The good news is a infant who was abducted by her father is safe, but questions remain why numerous people didn’t get the Amber Alert issued on Thursday, August 24, 2023.

A e-mail went out at 6:16 a.m. stating an Amber Alert was issued by he Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) who were seeking public assistance to locate three-month-old Jazmine GILL-BISSONNETTE, who was abducted by her father.

The suspect and child were last seen in Roseneath, Alnwick-Haldimand Township in the evening of August 23, 2023. The investigation began after emergency services responded to a single vehicle collision on the 5th Line at Merrill Road in Alnwick/Haldimand Township at 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Through investigation it was learned the suspect had abandoned the vehicle along with the infant.

An extensive search was conducted by emergency services including the use of a canine unit, drone and helicopter, but the suspect wasn’t located.

Shortly before 6 a.m. the suspect was arrested with the infant on Merrill Road near County Road 45.

The infant was taken to Northumberland Hills Hospital to be checked over, but was fine.

Central Region OPP Media Relations officer Gosia Puzio said in a e-mail to Today’s Northumberland that, “the Ontario Provincial Police is aware that an Amber Alert message was not transmitted to all cell phones across the province.”

“The Amber Alert was successfully received by those in the area where the child had last been seen prior to her abduction.”

Today’s Northumberland replied that the Amber Alert was not successfully received by many people in the area where the child was last seen, but Puzio only stated, “We are working to determine the cause of problem and ensure it is resolved as quickly as possible.”
