29th Annual Alderville First Nation Pow Wow Brings Community Together

Alderville First Nation Pow Wow July 8, 2023

Another amazing turnout for the Alderville First Nation Pow Wow which took place over the weekend.

On July 8 and 9, 2023, the 29th annual Pow Wow took place on Roseneath Landing Road and one of the organizers said it was an amazing weekend.

“It’s been fabulous,” said Melissa McKeown stating it’s been busy since the gates opened at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

On Saturday there were seven drums under the arbour and close to 100 dancers registered and that was just after the Grand Entry which took place at noon.

Most of the dancers were from southern Ontario, but some came from father away.

“Often we have people who are visiting Canada who are very excited to come see a Pow Wow for the first time. It’s very much a tourist attraction at this time of year with all the tourist resorts around the (Rice) Lake.”

McKeown said the Pow Wow gives people the opportunity to come together and celebrate their community.

“A lot of times it’s a homecoming to gather and visit with family members that they don’t get to see other times of the year.”
