Earlier this week, Park’s Department staff meticulously worked on getting the clock ready for the summer at the corner of Queen and Church Streets.
Town of Cobourg horticulturalist, Rick Cromlish said the last few years was the Rotary theme, with last year being the Jubilee theme.
“This year we’re going to do more of abstract design. There is going to be a pinwheel in the middle filled with boom bing begonias.”
Outside the year will be at the top and the name Cobourg will be at the bottom along with a few different designs on the outside.
“The planning depending on how intricate the design is can be a couple of days. We have done this pinwheel previously, so this one took about a day to design. The prep working takes about a day and the planting can take a day or two.”
There are approximately 5,000 to 6,000 plants in the clock including purple alternanthera, yellow alternanthera and santolina.
From start to finish Cromlish and the staff take pride in their work.
“It’s definitely one of the things I think, people who are interested in this part of what we do for the Town of Cobourg pay a lot of attention too. We’ve had a lot of discussions about it with people just passing by and it is something that stands out. We definitely do try to do our very best with it.”
