Members of TweakEasyCBG Cautioned for Trespassing

A number of people were cautioned for trespassing after setting up on property without the permission of the owner.

Starting at approximately 7 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2023 a number of people, most of which are associated with the unsanctioned overdose prevention site called TweakEasyCBG set up a table along with other items behind the Friendly Fires business at the corner of King Street East and College Street.  At one point there was even a dog that was carrying two Nalaxone kits.

Shortly after setting up two by-law officers approached the group. The by-law officers took various photos around the area.

By-law officers said the group told them they were handing out literature, and serving coffee and food.

A smudging ceremony took place on the property shortly after.

Lyss Warmland who was with the group spoke to Today’s Northumberland and said the people in the group were “all people are doing is hanging out and making sure if people go down they have Nalaxone.”

“It’s about trying to keep people safe.”

A group started up approximately a month ago called TweakEasyCBG and since then have unsanctioned overdose prevention sites in the downtown area from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. every Friday.

Cobourg town council, MPP David Piccini have condemned the sites that have not gone through the proper channels.

But Warmland said there is a reason for that, though she wouldn’t explain.

A short time after by-law officers spoke to the group, by-law left the area, but said they would be monitoring the area.

During the time Today’s Northumberland was parked in the area, a person with the group approached and demanded we leave the area. A short time after, he placed two pylons by the car, then once again approached the vehicle and mysteriously bent down and hid in different areas around the vehicle (as shown on video).

Shortly before 9 p.m., three Cobourg Police vehicles arrived on scene along with by-law.

Cobourg Police cautioned the group about trespassing as they did not have permission to be on the property. The group got in their vehicles and left the business.
