The cause of an abandoned barn that went up in flames early Tuesday morning remains unknown.
Cobourg Fire Department were initially called to the abandoned barn at 7960 County Road 2 just east of Lovshin Road in Hamilton Township.
When fire crews arrived on scene a large portion of the abandoned barn was engulfed in flames.
High winds fanned the flames sending sparks and smoke towards Cobourg.
Additional crews were called from Hamilton Township and Port Hope for assistance.
County Road 2 was blocked for several hours as the hydrant was located on the south side of the roadway.
The origin of the fire is unknown, but suspicious as there was no electricity to the barn.
Today’s Northumberland will update when more information becomes available.
