Town of Cobourg Advises Residents of Cold Warning for Friday, February 3rd

The Town of Cobourg would like to inform residents of cold temperatures expected throughout the week, with a low of -16 (-22 overnight) on Friday, February 3.

Alerts are declared when the forecast is to drop to -15°C or colder, or when a wind chill of -20° or below is expected for a 24-hour period without warming up. Temperatures across southern
Ontario are expected to be 5 to 10°C below seasonal for most of this week, with temperatures on Friday, February 3 in Cobourg to drop to -16 during the day (feels like -28) and overnight
-22.

Residents are encouraged to seek protection from the cold. If outside, dress in layers and be sure to cover exposed skin. Exposure to these temperatures and wind may result in frostbite
or hypothermia.

Town of Cobourg Temporary Respite Locations

Those who need to get warm can visit one of the following locations:

• Victoria Hall, 55 King St W, Cobourg

o Monday to Friday (January 30 – February 3): 8:30am – 8pm

o Saturday, February 4, 2023: 12pm – 4pm

o Sunday, February 5, 2023: 12pm – 6pm

• Police Station, 107 King St W, Cobourg will be open 8am-8pm, 7 days a week

• Library, 200 Ontario St, Cobourg will be open, Monday to Wednesday 10am-8pm,

Thursday – Saturday 10am-5pm, and Sunday 1pm-5pm

• Cobourg Community Centre 750 D’Arcy St, Cobourg 7am-11pm 7 days a week

Northumberland County provides overnight warming room services at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 240 College Street, Cobourg, where residents in need can take shelter from the
cold and access washrooms and light refreshments. These services are available seven days a week from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. until the end of March 2023.

During extreme weather events, residents are remined to visit neighbours, friends, and older family members to ensure their wellbeing.
