Cobourg Resident Ticked at Getting a Winter Parking Ticket On A Gorgeous Fall Day

A winter parking ticket was the last thing a Cobourg man thought he’d be receiving on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

But when 24-year-old Daniel Filce went out to his car on Munson Crescent on Saturday he found out that he received a $35.00 parking ticket.

After looking at bit further Filce also found out that his younger sister received a ticket along with a neighbour across the street.

With the weather hovering around 15 to 20 degrees Celsius over the last few days, winter was the last thing on his mind.

“It’s November – there is no snow on the ground,” said Filce.

“There is no chance that a plow needs to come by right now.”

Filce is living at his parents house for the time being as he’s going back to school in January.

Filce has a vehicle along with his sister and both parents.

“We’ve got four cars at the house, but there is only room for two (in the driveway) because the sidewalk is on our side of the street.”

“So there is no where else to park but the street.”

At some point common sense should come into play.

“When there is snow, we move the cars.”

“They don’t come here in the middle of the night.”

Filce has parked at Canadian Tire during winter months until the plows come by which is usually at 3 p.m., not at 3 a.m. when the tickets were issued.

Living on Munson Crescent it is a extremely quiet road with the only traffic usually being from the people that live in the area or visiting.

Filce said the bylaw needs to change.

“We can’t afford a ticket every single day. And where do they expect us to park?”

“I need to save for school. I can’t afford a $35.00 ticket every single day just to own a car.”
