The 26th annual Traditional Pow Wow was held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 in Alderville.
It’s the first time the Pow Wow has been held in the past two years due to COVID.
The theme for this year was Honouring Mother Earth and officials said Saturday’s turnout was believed to be record crowds.
Alderville First Nation Chief Dave Mowat said after a two-year hiatus due to COVID, “people chomping at the bit to get back on the pow wow trail and we’re real happy to welcome everybody here to Alderville First Nation.”
Mowat said the pow wow is a celebratory event, but, “history will show the pow wow and these ceremonies were oppressed and not allowed to happen at one time. But this is a reflection of how beautiful this can be. Not only for Alderville First Nation, but for our neighbours and friends outside the community.”
The pow wow continues on Sunday starting at noon located at 5787 Roseneath landing Road in Alderville.
