YMCA Northumberland Celebrates Pride

Y Pride Cobourg June 8, 2022

It was a first at YMCA Northumberland as the Pride flag was raised on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.

A number of dignitaries from the area including members of the Port Hope and Cobourg Police joined together at noon for the Progress Pride Flag raising for the first time in the history of YMCA Northumberland.

CEO Eunice Kirkpatrick said the raising of the flag acknowledges the diversity in our community and celebrates 2SLGBTQIA and Pride Month of June.

“Today also marks an important step forward in the continued commitment to becoming a more inclusive community and that we value diversity, and that discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression has no place in any community.”

Cobourg Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf who is also a member of the YMCA Board, said the Y, “is a safe place for everyone to be who they want to be without judgement.”
