Cobourg Police Hold Morning After St. Paddy’s Day RIDE

Cobourg Police RIDE March 18, 2022

A Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program was conducted by the Cobourg Police Service early this morning until noon in Cobourg.

Throughout RIDE, police were at five different locations in Cobourg and checked 1,760 vehicles. Of those vehicles, four Highway Traffic Act cautions were issued, and police conducted two roadside tests with an Approved Screen Device. Both drivers passed.

Thank you to everyone who made the safe choice on St. Patrick’s Day to call a cab, designate a sober driver, or stay the night.

Make the commitment to yourself and your passengers never drive after consuming alcohol or drugs. As a passenger in a motor vehicle with an impaired driver, your safety IS compromised.

Furthermore, the safety of fellow motorists and pedestrians is at risk when a person under the influence of alcohol or drugs gets behind the wheel.

Please report suspected impaired driving by calling 911. Impaired driving is the #1 criminal cause of death in Canada, yet every impaired driving crash is preventable. By calling 911 and reporting suspected impaired drivers to police, everyone can play a role in keeping our roads safe and in reducing impaired driving crashes, deaths, and injuries.
