Devastating Fire Leaves Cramahe Township Family of Four Homeless
A family who had just bought their dream house are now homeless following a devastating fire north of Castleton in Cramahe Township on Monday, January 17, 2022.
At approximately 5:30 a.m. Cramahe Township Fire Department were notified of a structure fire on Dawson Road north of Castleton.
It was almost at the height of the snow storm and firefighters said it was extremely difficult driving to the fire because of near zero visibility.
Once on site, firefighters couldn’t save the structure and fought the fire from outside of the two-storey home.
Fire crews from Alnwick/Haldimand, Hamilton Township and Trent Hills were also called for assistance and tanker support, but the home burned to the ground.
The family was alerted to the fire from smoke detectors.
The fire was deemed not suspicious and believed to have started in the area of the wood stove.
A GoFundMe has been started by a friend of the Smith family which includes Tanner and Jess Smith along with their two children Paige and Landon.
The family escaped with only the clothes they were wearing at the time.

They have a dog, cat and lizard.
