Port Hope Businessman Gives A Boost of Humour to Drivers in COVID Times

Port Hope Sign January 6, 2022

A Port Hope businessman is giving a bit of levity to drivers during tough times.

Jordan Stevenson who owns Buildx on Hamilton Road has placed a large digital sign outside his business with light-hearted phrases to hopefully cheer people up.

Stevenson said he put the sign up along the roadway to wish everyone “happy holidays” then another lockdown hit.

“I thought I’d spread a little joy and entertainment to all the people driving by.”

The light-hearted messages centre around COVID, but have a humorous twist to them.

At least once a day they are changed and Stevenson has been doing it for the last three days.

“Everybody loves it.”

“It’s been nothing but positive. We’ve had vendors e-mailing us saying “thanks for helping us through the lockdown.”

Stevenson admits he’s no comedian, but he bounces ideas off people and hope they get a chuckle out of the signs as they pass by.

A number of people have actually pulled into the parking lot of his business at 20 Hamilton Road to take photos of the sign.

The current sign says “When in doubt blame Carol Baskin.”

Baskin appeared on the 2020 Netflix crime documentary series Tiger King.

The solar sign is changed at least once a day, “to keep it going and see what people like and what people don’t like.”

For Stevenson it helps break up his day coming up with the slogans.

“It’s nice to just bring some joy to the really crappy times that we’re having right now with Omicron growing as fast as it is.”
