Record Number of Furry Friends Participate in the Annual Castleton Christmas Pet Parade
The sixth annual Castleton Christmas Pet Parade took place on Sunday, December 5, 2021 with a record number of participants.
Like most things, last years parade was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Volunteer Ingrid Anderson said it was “overwhelming” this year with over 70 dogs entered along with horses, donkeys, miniature horses and even a sheep that is named Flower.
The parade started at the Castleton Public School at 2 p.m. and wound its way through the streets ending at the Cramahe Township Public Library where there was fresh apple cider and goodies from World’s Finest Chocolates was handed out.
People set up chairs along the way and came out of their homes to take pictures of the well-dressed pets passing by.
The original idea came from a resident of Castleton who decided it would be a great idea for people to dress up their pets and walk around the village.
“It just grew from there.”
“It was a wonderful parade.”
‘It brings neighbours together and God knows we need that now.”
MPP David Piccini took part along with his dog Max and said it was “awesome.”
Cramahe Township Mayor Mandy Martin couldn’t wipe the smile from her face on the event.
“It’s the best.”
“The spirit is fabulous.”
Martin said there was people who couldn’t attend that even sent their animals to participate.
Justin’s Pet Food Store in Cobourg gave all the participants (four-legged ones treats)
