Friend of Victims in Fatal Fire Starts GoFundMe To Help Raise Funds for Funeral Costs

A Alnwick/Township woman has started a GoFundMe to raise money for funeral costs related to the deaths of two people following a house fire in Port Hope on Friday, October 8, 2021.

Two people were tragically killed in the fire on Bruton Street in Port Hope. Investigators with the Office of the Fire Marshal are trying to determine the cause of the deadly fire.

Four others were displaced from the duplex that is shared by family members.

Kim Goebel is raising funds for funeral costs associated with the deaths.

“Today, my best friend faces a mother’s and a daughter’s worst nightmare.”

Goebel said the fire claimed the life of her friends only child and her only living parent.

“I have known Debbie and her family for 36-years and they have become part of my extended family by heart. Keshia has always called me Aunt Kim and my husband Uncle Rick.”

“I personally cannot even try to imagine the pain and living hell Debbie must be going through let alone her siblings and their families as well as her extended family.”

Goebel is asking the community for financial support and prayers, “to lay these two beautiful women to rest properly.”

Aside from the GoFundMe there is a collection of clothing, toiletries and gift cards if people are interested can drop items off to Alya Maillett at 349 Spring Street in Cobourg.

Two of the survivors are staying at the Comfort Inn in Port Hope for now.

Goebel said the sizes range from women’s large to xl and men’s medium to large..
