Fire Destroys Home in Cramahe Township
A house burned to the ground after fire enveloped the structure on Dingman Road near Tobaccoo Road in Cramahe Township on Friday, June 11, 2021
.Cramahe Township firefighters were called around noon to the home near Castleton.
It appears the fire started in the basement and spread quickly to the rest of the home.
“Upon arrival there was visible smoke,” said Cramahe Fire Chief Mark MacDonald.
Brighton and Trent Hills Fire Department were called for manpower and tanker support for shuttling water.
“It was well on its way when we arrived with smoke showing from the entire structure and quickly breached and vented with visible flame.”
Wind and the heat were challenging to the firefighters battling the blaze.
“On a hot day like today with bunker gear, heat is definitely a factor.”
Northumberland County Paramedics were on stand-by, assessing the firefighters and making sure they stay hydrated.
One firefighter was transported to Northumberland Hills Hospital suffering from heat exhaustion.
The home had been owned by a family for decades and was a total loss.
The exact cause of the fire is undetermined at this point.
“Everyone got out safe – and that’s the main thing.”
