Rainbow Trout Make Their Way Up Ganaraska River in Port Hope
The annual rainbow trout migration is well underway along the Ganaraska River in Port Hope
.
On Tuesday, March 30, 2021, thousands of trout were at Corbett’s dam fish ladder with a number of people watching along the banks of the river.
Two photographers took their craft up a notch by actually getting in the water for the perfect angle.
The Ganaraska River Fishway is also known as the fish ladder and is operated by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and local volunteers. During the month of April up to 8,000 migratory Rainbow Trout or Steelhead make their journey up the Ganaraska River to spawn. Staging and spawning also takes place in the riverbed below the fish ladder.
The Ganaraska River is one of the healthiest rivers in Ontario, populated almost entirely with wild naturally-reproducing fish.
