Update – Northumberland OPP – Weekend Apartment Fire Deemed “Suspicious”

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a scene of a structure fire that was reported at approximately 12:40 pm on February 13, 2021 at a building located on the corner of Toronto Street and Church Street in the Town of Colborne.

The Cramahe Township Fire Department, Municipality of Brighton Fire Department and the Trent Hills Fire Department worked collaboratively to quickly extinguish the fire that appeared to have started from within one of the apartments located on the upper level of the building. All of the residents from the rental units escaped the blaze safely and no injuries were reported.

The Northumberland OPP secured the scene while the OPP Major Crime Unit investigated the incident with the assistance from the Central Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM).

This fire has been deemed suspicious and the incident remains under investigation.
