Branch 133, Legion Village would like to inform the community that as of today, Friday, October 2, 2020 they have now surpassed the 14-day quarantine period for a resident who tested positive for COVID-19 on September 22, 2020.
In compliance with the Ministry of Health and local public health unit protocol, anyone who leaves on a ‘short term absence’ are asked to complete a COVID-19 assessment test upon returning
home and to self-isolate while waiting for those results. On September 20th a resident returned home after being away for a week and was immediately placed into isolation while awaiting test
results. On September 22nd the test results came back positive to which residents and staff were immediately notified of a positive, single case which the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District
Health Unit (HKPR District Health Unit) deemed to be isolated with no potential for outbreak.
Legion Village staff worked closely with Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) and the HKPR District Health Unit to determine next steps. Legion Village immediately closed the building to the
public and only allowed essential visitors access until the quarantine period expired.
Since March when the emergency declaration was evoked, residents and staff continue to practice and enforce COVID-19 safety protocols which includes mandatory masks worn by all staff,
enhanced cleaning and disinfection regimes, twice daily temperature checks, resident monitoring within the supportive housing program, and the closure of common gathering locations such as the dining room, pub and communal activities.
All Legion Village staff who had contact with the resident who tested positive have all tested negative for COVID-19.
Executive Director Sherry Gibson says the professionalism of staff and co-operation of residents was critical in containing the virus to a single, isolated case. “Both staff and residents have been
on high-alert since the WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic. They have remained alert and diligent in their efforts to keep each other safe and the processes we have in place were essential
to this excellent outcome.”
Legion Village continues to remind residents and staff of the importance of self-monitoring and following public health guidance. Hand-washing, wearing of masks and physical distancing are
important measure to stop the spread.
