Members of Northumberland OPP put on their red high heels and went for a walk on Wednesday, September 24, 2020 in honour of Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre.
Due to COVID-19 the annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes went virtual with participants putting on the red high heels and going for a walk wherever it was possible.
Northumberland Acting Inspector Jeff Martin said, “both civilian and uniform members of the Northumberland OPP were proud to “Walk a Mike” in support of Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre. Cornerstone is a strong community partner of the OPP and we will continue to work together to support those who are impacted & victimized by family violence.”
Participants walked from the Cobourg Detachment and along Veronica Street before heading back to the detachment.
Cornerstone Executive Direction Nancy Johnston said, “we are appreciative of the OPP stepping up to help raise fund and awareness for Cornerstone as a part of our Virtual Walk A Mile. It is important to understand that family violence is a community issue which requires community solutions. Having community leaders and local law enforcement step out in signature red heels is a testament to their commitment to working collaboratively to be a part of the solution.”
