Special Day For Grafton Man During Highway of Heroes Fall Clean

Sept 19 Highway Clean

It was a special day on Saturday, September 19, 2020 for the 2020 Fall Clean of the Highway of Heroes.

The semi-annual clean has been taking place for several days and on Saturday the clean was started at the Chris Garrett Memorial Bridge in Cobourg.

Garrett was a Cobourg Police Officer who was murdered in the line of duty on May 15, 2004.

A number of Cobourg Police officers and Northumberland OPP officers joined in on the clean.

A number of people also joined in including the oldest member who cleans the Highway.

Veteran, Bill Bachellier celebrated his 74th birthday by cleaning the off and on-ramps of the Highway of Heroes.

Police officers sang Happy Birthday to Bill while cleaning the highway.

“I couldn’t think of a better bunch of people to spend my birthday with,” said Bachellier.

While cleaning the westbound on-ramp Cobourg Police Sgt. Randy Curr found a $50 bill and donated it to Project Trauma Support which is charity that treats military members, veterans and first responders who are affected by mental health.
