It was one for the record books as graduates from Port Hope High School held their commencement on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at the Port Hope Drive-In.
COVID-19 has brought challenging times for everyone, but staff at the school didn’t want the graduates to miss out on their special event.
So, over 60 students and their families lined up outside the Port Hope Drive-In for the special ceremony at dusk.
Vehicle by vehicle entered and the graduates were presented with special gifts by staff who cheered the graduates along with MPP David Piccini and Port Hope Police Constable Tammie Staples.
Karen Watson put together a video for the evening. The graduation committee consisted of Natalie Gavel, Ron MacDonald, Krista Coughler, Hannah Wallace, Pat Papp, Jennifer Hermiston, along with Toth and Melissa Emerson
The event took approximately six weeks to put together including the video, that included the introduction of graduates, the singing of O’Canada, greetings by Minister of Education Stephen Lecce and Principal Ron MacDonald.
The video on the big screen also showed a slideshow of their years at Port Hope High School and the Valedictorian Address by Desire Cuthbert and Alec Larsen.
