Base for Statue Honouring Fern Blodgett Sunde Put in Place

The base for a statue honouring a Cobourg native was put in place on Tuesday, August 11, 2020.

Fern Blodgett Sunde grew up in Cobourg and became the first female wireless operator in Canada during World War II.

The statue will be placed at the end of Victoria Park.

A sod turning was held on July 6, 2020. Bracing and three cubic metres of cement for the statue was put in place by Dalren Construction and the unveiling of the life size statue will be on October 17, 2020 (which marks the 75th anniversary of World War II.
