Artist Creates Peace Memorial Along Boardwalk in Cobourg
Local artist Jenny Duda has added to her previous works of art along the Cobourg beach.
On Monday, July 13, 2020, Duda completed what she calls “The Rest in Peace Memorial”
In a note posted beside the artwork, Duda wrote, “During these rigid, difficult times, many people have lost a loved one. A proper send off or funeral has been unavailable for friends and family.
Please feel free to add a feather to honour a loved one, to celebrate their life or simply to make a wish for their everlasting happiness.”
Throughout her five hours of creating the art many people stopped along the boardwalk to thank her for the art she has created since the fence went up on June 3 and the beach was closed.
Previously Duda has created a unicorn, heART, and a the word CANADA along with a maple leaf celebrating Canada day on July 1.
Local resident Heather Miller walks along the boardwalk with her dog everyday and said she, “I was disappointed to see the fence come up, but when the art came up, it made it pleasant, it made it wonderful to be here.”
Cobourg Councillor Adam Bureau visited the boardwalk while Duda was created her art.
“I think what she’s doing is amazing.”
As a councillor and also owning in a business in downtown Cobourg, Bureau said many people locally and visitors talking about the artwork Duda has created.
“A lot of the arts and culture scene has been null and void over this COVID. And what she’s doing is bringing that back to life. To me that’s such a positive and such a positive for our community.”
“Because art is inspirational to everyone.”
