No Basis to Proceed with Charges in Peterborough Fatal Police-Involved Shooting and Pursuit that Preceded Collision
On July 23, 2019, following a BOLO (be on the lookout) for a stolen red Mustang, a Peterborough Police Service officer located the vehicle and initiated a vehicular pursuit.
The pursuit ended when the Mustang became involved in a collision with another motor vehicle.
As a result of the collision, a 64-year-old woman from the second vehicle sustained a broken arm. After a stand-off with police, the driver of the stolen motor vehicle was shot and killed by an officer.
The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, has determined there is no basis for proceeding with criminal charges in this case, and the file is closed.
