Positive Spirit Shines Through For St. Mary Grads in Cobourg

It was a night to remember at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School in Cobourg on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.

Due to COVID-19, a prom was simply impossible like so many other events.

But the spirit of the school came through in what they did.

It was amazing, emotional and most importantly it was memorable.

A total of 240 graduates were invited to participate in vehicles starting at the Lions Community Centre and parade along Elgin Street and up Birchwood Trail to the school sharply at 6 p.m.

All types of vehicles were along the route. Some students were dressed up as if going to their actual prom, while others enjoyed the moment. Vehicles were dressed up with balloons, and photos of the graduates.

Along the way, parents, friends, trying their best to keep a social distance from one another lined the route up to the school cheering.

As they entered the school property, faculty lines the sidewalk applauding as each vehicle drove by.

For the graduate students of the St. Mary Catholic Secondary School, it may not have been the evening they thought it would be, but they will always have that special memory of their prom parade to the school where they grew into adults.
