Calling All Grads – Cobourg Prom Parade Set for Saturday

A Cobourg woman has come forward with something special for the grad of the local high schools.

Pavanne Hawkes wants to have a Cobourg Grad Parade for graduates who are missing out on their traditional parade to their proms.

“The kids can get dressed, get in their cars and promenade through town and show community spirit.”

Hawkes who doesn’t have any children graduating (yet) but said because of COVID-19 restrictions things are different this year. But Hawkes wants to create something where all schools including Cobourg Collegiate Institute, St. Mary Second School and Northumberland Christian School.

“It’s important to me. I remember when I was that age. I looked forward to graduating prom for years.”

“It’s a milestone and I think everyone feels for them.”

The event is being held on Saturday, June 27 starting at 2 p.m. at Northumberland Mall where the parade will drive through area roads ending at the Cobourg Community Centre.

“If you live on the route we’d love you to come out of your house and cheer them on and make them feel special.”

Hawkes said she hopes it will be as festive as possible and people decorate their vehicles for the Prom Parade.
