Homeowner Could Face Fines Regarding Grass Fire in Hamilton Township

April 18 grass fire

A homeowner could face fines resulting from a grass fire in Hamilton Township on Saturday, April 18, 2020.

Hamilton Township firefighters were called to Cochrane Road north of Dale Road at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The homeowner was burning in the backyard and the fire spread to a field and brush.

Firefighters used approximately 900 feet of hose to reach the fire that was on top of a hill.

High winds also helped the fire spread the quickly.

Fire Chief Kelly Serson said homeowners who don’t have a permit could be charged hundreds of dollars for each fire truck that responds to a fire where the homeowner doesn’t have a permit.

For information about open air burning call your local township.

In Hamilton Township there is no day burning allowed.

Serson adds, “these firefighters are being called out to something careless and with the COVID-19 crisis it puts them at risk for no reason.”
