It’s been a busy 24-hours for hydro workers as they deal with a number of areas across Northumberland County that have had power outages due to downed hydro lines.

Just about every area of the county has had power outages during the last 24-hours leading into the afternoon of November 1, 2019.

It was expected the area would see a deluge of rain, but it was the wind that caused the most problems for the most part.

High winds throughout the night had every fire department attending calls for arcing wires, and downed hydro lines.

Workers throughout the county did their best to open up roads as quickly as possible and restore power.

In Cobourg a surfer and a stand-up paddle boarder took to the waters of Lake Ontario. Northumberland OPP received a call reporting a person in trouble in the water and police and members of the Coast Guard attended. It’s believed it was the stand-up paddle boarder who was around the area of the lighthouse catching waves.

Later on in the afternoon to surfers were by the area of Cobourg Creek on Lake Ontario.

A large piece of patio furniture ended up in a tree approximately 30 feet off the ground on Maher Street in Cobourg’s west end.

High winds took the large umbrella and located it high in the neighbours tree for the time being.

A number of tree branches including at the bottom of Division Street were broken and some were uprooted including one on Tremaine Terrace and resting against a house.

A number of planks attached to the scaffolding were dislodged at the Cobourg Water Tower west of Burnham Street. Repairs and upgrades have been underway for several months with water tower. A road at the base of the tower was closed until the strong winds recede.

A temporary shelter at a residence near Archer’s Road west of Grafton was transported from the property coming to rest on the opposite side of the roadway.
