It was a heartbreaking loss by the Toronto Raptors to the Golden State Warriors on Monday, June 10, 2019.
And the fans felt it in the Capitol Theatre in Port Hope.
The theatre was nearly packed to watch the Raptors win one more game and take the NBA championship, but that didn’t happen with the Raptors losing by one point with a score of 106-105.
The evening started out in a festive mood with the audience in attendance belting out O’Canada with the rest of the country as they watched the game.
The expressions on the faces of those in attendance said it all in the theatre. Holding his young child who was asleep over his shoulder a father watched most of the game standing in the aisle, but that didn’t stop him from cheering.
Throughout the game the Raptors kept clawing their way back and took the lead near the end of the game, but just couldn’t hold it and the Warriors won.
The evening was put on by Queenies Bake Shop owner Adam Pearson who worked in conjunction with the Capitol Theatre, David Piccini and Jennifer Mercer from Jennifer’s Jazz It Up.
Next game is on June 13 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland California.
