“Interesting Rescue” for Cobourg Firefighters

A bit of a different call for Cobourg firefighters on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 in downtown Cobourg.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. firefighters were called to “With All My Art” after owner Katherine O’Mally-Greer heard the sounds of a kitten in the basement.  O’Mally-Greer spotted the kitten after checking, but couldn’t reach it.

Firefighters Rick Martin and Jeff Briggs attended the business, and after being directed to the area, found the kitten.

“It was a bit of reach,” said Martin.

The kitten was tucked into a corner and didn’t seem to appreciate the efforts of firefighters.

“We located the little guy, but he was rather distraught and not very happy.”

“But we managed to get him out.”

Being that there was one kitten in the area, the group thought there may be more.

A second kitten was located behind approximately 60 storm windows and other materials.

The pair moved the windows to find the other kitten.

They’ve now been named O’Mally from the basement and Ralph who was located behind the storm windows.

Both kittens were picked up by a local animal clinic to make sure they were both healthy then they will be put up for adoption.

Martin summed it up as a “interesting rescue,” but added, “one with a happy ending.”

O”Mally-Greer said she greatly appreciates the efforts of both firefighters.

“They brought the one up from downstairs, then made sure there weren’t others. But then they saw a little guy, so they busted their butts to move all those windows to save the last little critter.”
