Cobourg Firefighters Rescue Person Locked Inside Former Sidbrook Hospital
Cobourg Fire Department came to the rescue of a person trapped in an abandoned building in Cobourg on May 3, 2019.Shortly before 3 p.m. firefighters were called to the former Sidbrook Hospital on King Street East, just east of Abbott Boulevard for a woman who was trapped inside the building.Acting Captain Gene Stroeder said information received was a person came by to secure a door not knowing the female was inside the building.“They secured her inside and finally she called out for help.”When a person heard the person’s cries for help, Cobourg Police were notified and called for the fire department.Initially the female was inside a room with a small window on the second floor, then firefighters put a ladder up to the second floor balcony where the emotional woman was helped down the ladder.With holes in areas of the floors, mould, animal feces and areas of the building very dark, Stroeder said people should stay out of the building that is clearly marked with no trespassing signs.
