Breaking News – Cause Of Fatal Fire Ruled Accidental

The investigation continues in the death of a man who was found in the basement of a house fire on Ontario Street in Cobourg on April 27, 2019.
At approximately 8:16 a.m. Hamilton Township Fire Department responded to the address of 1291 Ontario Street for reports of a structure fire.
Sixty-four-year-old Dennis Passmore along with two dogs were rescued from the fire by Hamilton Township firefighters.
Tragically, Passmore was pronounced dead at the hospital and one of the dogs also died.
The other dog was revived by firefighters with the help of Northumberland County Paramedics. The dog was picked up by members of the Northumberland Humane Society and transferred to Peterborough where it is being treated.
Northumberland OPP Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Unit, Coroner’s Office, and Hamilton Township Fire Department are continuing their investigation and the scene was released at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday evening.
Hamilton Township Fire Chief Kelly Serson said the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
