OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit At Scene of Murder In Trent River
Members of the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Team were searching the waters of Trent River on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 in the area where a person was murdered.
Scott McDonald (age 43), was believed to have been gunned down at approximately 4:15 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018 across from the General Store on Church Street in the Hamlet of Trent River.
McDonald was taken to hospital but died as a result of his injuries.
The area has been cordoned off since the murder, but neighbours say the crime tape was taken down on Tuesday, August 22, 2018.
The investigation is ongoing by members of the OPP Northumberland Major Crime Unit, OPP Central Region Forensic Identification Unit, OPP Emergency Response Team, and the OPP Canine Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Gerald Scherer of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
The Underwater Search and Recovery Team were using metal detectors to search near the shore, but also had a diver scouring the area for any sign of a weapon or evidence.
Two suspects were observed leaving the area shortly after the gunshots were heard by neighbours, but there have been no arrests in the investigation to this point.
