MNRF Release – $2,000 in Fines for Unlawful Hunting
A Caledon area man has been fined a total of $2,000 for offences under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.
Stephen Anderson pleaded guilty and was fined $1,250 for not having a valid deer licence while being in possession of a high-powered rifle during the gun season for deer, and $750 for hunting small game without a valid small game licence. His rifle and ammunition were permanently forfeited to the Crown.
Court heard that on November 19, 2017, Anderson went hunting on a property in Douro-Dummer Township, in Peterborough County. During the hunt, Anderson was inspected by a conservation officer and was found to be in possession of a high-powered rifle during the gun season for deer. He claimed to be hunting only small game but did not have a valid licence to hunt small game.

Hunters are reminded that when hunting small game in an area where there is an open season for deer, they may not possess a high-powered rifle unless they have a valid licence to hunt deer.
