Cobourg Police Weekly Media Release – Laser Pointed At Aircraft

 

From the 11th of June 2018 through the 17th of June 2018, the Cobourg Police Service responded to 229 occurrences including: 3 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 14 Alarm calls, 9 Theft/Shoplifting calls, 5 Suspicious Persons/Vehicles calls, 7 Domestic/Family Disputes, 4 Mischief calls, 5 Assault calls, and 4 Neighbor Disputes. Here are some examples of calls for service for the week:

June 11:
· Police received a traffic complaint for a report of a vehicle pulling out into traffic on Division Street, cutting the complainant off. The driver of the vehicle was located by officers and cautioned regarding his driving habits.
· A 3 vehicle motor vehicle collision was reported to police at the intersection of Elgin Street West and Strathy Road. One of the driver’s was subsequently charged under the Highway Traffic Act for Turn – Not in Safety.
· Police attended an address in the downtown area for a report of female that was without vital signs who had allegedly overdosed on heroin. Upon police arrival the female had been revived through the use of Naloxone by bystanders and was transported to hospital without further incident.

June 12:
· An elderly female was observed to have fallen at a street corner in the East end of Town and although uninjured appeared confused about where she resided. Police attended and safely returned the female to her residence.
· A shoplifter was arrested by store security at a North end business. Upon police arrival the shoplifter had paid for the item and was trespassed from the store.

June 13:
· A resident reported to police a portion of their fence had been torn down sometime overnight. The neighbourhood was canvassed and there are no suspects or witnesses at this time.
· A request was received from a local business to check on the wellbeing of one of their employees who had not shown up for work. Police located the employee who advised he had resigned from his position.
· Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle and driver at the Cobourg Community Centre parked on the grass with music playing from it loudly. Police attended the area, however the vehicle had left prior to police arrival.
· A downtown resident contacted police to report a noise complaint regarding a neighbour yelling and screaming in their residence. Police attended and spoke to the neighbour who agreed to keep the volume down. There were no further issues.
June 14:
· Police received a report of a stolen bicycle from the Via Station on Division Street. Investigation continuing and also reported to CN Police.
· A resident attended the Cobourg Police Station to report a theft of approximately $350. Through police investigation it was determined this money had been lent to the alleged suspect. The resident was advised to pursue the matter through Civil Courts.

June 15:
· A baby was accidentally locked in a vehicle at a North end business. Members of the Cobourg Police and Fire Department attended and successfully retrieved the child from the vehicle without further incident.
· Police attended the Cobourg Beach for a report of a female being harassed by three other females. Police spoke with all involved and determined an argument had ensued over 3 of the females chasing seagulls on the beach that had stolen some of their chicken. All involved left the beach without incident.

June 16:
· Pearson International Airport Air Traffic Control contacted Cobourg Police after receiving information from pilots of a high altitude flight that they had observed a laser in the sky over Cobourg. The pilots determined the laser to have originated from the Town of Cobourg; however, neither the pilots nor police were able to determine the exact source of the laser.
· A male was arrested overnight in the downtown area by officers for his own safety and protection after being located being intoxicated in a public place.

June 17:
· Police were contacted regarding a possible domestic at an East end residence after reports were received of a male and female yelling at one another. Police attended and located those involved. Through investigation it was determined there had been no criminal offence and both individuals were separated for the remainder of the night.
· A small child was reported missing at the Cobourg Beach by her mother. However the child was located prior to police arrival and officers were not required.

The warmer weather always results in an increase of thefts from vehicles. Ensure that your doors are locked. Never leave valuables or money in your vehicle, but if you are going to, make sure that your valuables are completely out of sight.
