Police Issue “Public Safety Notice” Three Days After Woman Claimed She Was Attacked In Parking Lot
Cobourg Police have issued a press release regarding an incident that Today’s Northumberland first reported.
Deputy Police Chief Deputy Chief Paul VandeGraaf called it a “public safety notice” that was sent at 1:30 p.m. on June 8, 2018, three days after the incident was reported to police.
“In the interest of public safety members of the Cobourg Police Service Criminal Investigations Branch are notifying the public of two reported incidents involved what is believed to involve the same male.”
Today’s Northumberland first reported the male followed her to her vehicle where he made advances and then hugged and kissed her before she got back into her vehicle.
The male followed her down William Street, but turned down Harden Street. The woman went to the Cobourg Police Station.
The following day the woman went in to give a detailed interview but said the officer seemed almost dismissive about what had taken place.
On Thursday a detective constable followed up and said they are taking the matter very seriously and had obtained video/screen grab from Walmart.
The release from Cobourg Police release states, “It was reported to police that in the early evening of June 5, 2018 a female was approached by a male in the parking lot of a business located in the west end of Cobourg. The male made unwanted advances on the victim. The male is described as in his 70’s, approximately 5’8” tall, thin build, blue eyes and short silver hair. The male left driving a small black SUV believed to be a Lexus.”
There was also a second incident involving a male of similar description.
“On June 6, 2018 another incident involving a male with similar description was reported to police. The complainant reported the male approached her while she was in her driveway offering her a teddy bear for her child, she felt this to be odd behavior by the male. In this incident the male was reported to be driving a dark small SUV.”

There is no explanation why police three days to issue the release.
