Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Laid 23 Charges and Issued 12 Warnings In One Weekend In Northumberland County

Conservation officers with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) laid 23 charges and issued 12 warnings during a blitz focused on fishing activity during the trout season opening weekend.

From April 27 to 29, 2018, conservation officers with the MNRF, along with the ministry canine unit, checked 520 anglers around Lake Ontario tributaries in Northumberland County for compliance with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, the Ontario Fishery Regulations and public safety laws. Most of these inspections were done in the Port Hope and Cobourg areas.

Charges and warnings were issued for:

• fishing without a licence

• fishing in a sanctuary

• fishing during close time

• possessing an over limit

• trespassing to fish

• fishing without having licence on person

• snagging trout

• consuming liquor in a public place
